Training Specialist

Our Capacity Development team is growing and we have a Training Specialist opportunity!

The First Nations Financial Management Board (the “FMB”) has a unique opportunity for an experienced education professional to make a positive impact in growing our organization. This is a great opportunity to join a fantastic team in a great working environment and make a difference!

We are looking to fill roles in our West Vancouver office.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop detailed courses, workshops, webinars, tutorials, lesson plans and assessments related to FMS certification. This will involve working closely with the CD team, other FMB teams and the FMB’s clients to develop tools and templates that effectively support the achievement of FMS Certification
  • Develop instructional materials by coordinating multiple learning resources and delivery channels including AFOA, CPA Canada, Simon Fraser University, Ch’nook Indigenous Business Education, First Nations Technology Council and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, to name a few
  • Review, evaluate, and improve capacity building resources under the guidance of the Director of Capacity Development and Intervention and the Marketing and Capacity Development Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and assist with the implementation of leading practice capacity development delivery methods
  • Ensure relevant research is conducted on internal control capacity development and change management methodologies, tools, processes and resources
  • Manage and develop relationships with third party contractors, external researchers and academic institutions to conduct the development and facilitation of delivery mechanisms for FMB training courses with educational institutions, Indigenous organizations and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that the website and HPRM are updated in a timely and accurate manner for all Capacity Development resources and information
  • Provide monthly and quarterly reports to the Director of Capacity Development and Intervention on progress against performance goals
  • Support the CD team in their work with clients to achieve FMS certification. "Support" in this context means facilitating, enabling, motivating, educating, and may take the form of:
    • Update/improve the financial management system readiness assessment
    • Update/improve the FMS certification work plan template
    • Provide guidance through tools, templates and content development in relation to the First Nations Fiscal Management Act, FMB standards, 10-year grants and any resource materials provided
    • Deliver specific on-site or regional educational and awareness workshops
    • Monitor and report on client progress in using the various CD resources
  • Develop presentations to FAL compliance and FP certified clients interested in becoming FMS clients
  • Where appropriate, deliver presentations and coordinate FMB presence at national and regional conferences

Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CIA) preferred
  • Post- secondary (undergraduate) degree in Education or related with a specialization in First Nations Curriculum Concentration preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience in engaging with contemporary pedagogy and professional practice in relation to Indigenous knowledge systems
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a managerial position with employee and contractor oversight responsibilities
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Indigenous governments and organizations
  • In-depth knowledge of First Nations-related policies, procedures and practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and relationship skills
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively and to work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Proven experience in being hard working, diligent, mature, business-focused, detailed without losing sight of the larger picture and operationally engaged
  • Willing to travel occasionally across Canada and to remote locations
  • Willing and able to work outside of regular business hours
  • Bilingualism preferred (French)
