Public Comment on the Canadian Sustainable Finance Taxonomy: Methodology Report (Draft for Public Comment, July 2026)

This is FMB’s public comment letter to the Canadian Taxonomy and Transition Planning Council on the draft Canadian Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Methodology Report. FMB broadly supports the draft, with recommendations to ground FPIC/consent-verification in Canadian law rather than the voluntary IFC standard cited; give Indigenous Peoples distinct rights-holder status separate from general due diligence; require FPIC be obtained before taxonomy-aligned status can be claimed; build in differentiated criteria for diesel-reliant northern/remote communities; name Indigenous governments alongside SMEs in proportionality provisions; seek formal inclusion in the mining, electricity, and agriculture/forestry technical working groups; and have FMB’s certifications recognized as a proxy for entity-level assessments.
