Following the FMB’s successful engagement with over 50 per cent of Indian Act First Nations, new regulations introduced in October 2025 expanded the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (FMA) framework to include Self-Governing and Modern Treaty Nations across Canada, enabling them to work with FMA institutions.
In response, the FMB has developed new Financial Administration Law and Financial Performance standards tailored specifically for Self-Governing and Modern Treaty Nations. These standards build on existing frameworks and have been adapted to reflect the unique legislative structures, authorities, and terminology of these Nations.
