Financial Management System Support Services
Through FMS Certification, communities can strengthen their financial management laws and practices, unlocking better opportunities for loans and investments under more favourable terms.
However, smaller and remote First Nations often encounter significant barriers in accessing the qualified financial administration professionals necessary to pursue certification. These challenges can slow the journey toward financial independence and limit access to resources that support community development.
To address this gap, the FMB introduced FMS Support Services, a transformative program designed with and for First Nations. Launched as a pilot project in 2021–2022, this initiative delivers remote financial and administrative support tailored to the unique needs of communities, along with culturally grounded training and coaching.
The program’s client-centred approach allows First Nations to define their priorities and chart pathways toward both short-term improvements and long-term goals, including FMS Certification. By focusing on community-defined success, the FMB ensures that the support provided is relevant, meaningful, and empowering.
Support Services is a partnership that honours the inherent strength of First Nations and empowers communities to thrive in ways that align with their values, culture, and vision for the future.
