Please read these guidelines before uploading corporate documents to the FMB website.
The FMB follows rules set by the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act. These Acts let Canadian citizens see all recorded information held by the FMB. This includes information belonging to or relating to First Nation governments.
This means that the FMB may be required to show information uploaded to our website by the First Nations governments if someone asks to see it under the terms of these Acts and the information does not fall under an exemption of the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
How does this affect the First Nations?
We recommend that you do not upload documents containing information about:
- Community life, e.g., lifestyle, behaviour trends and patterns, results of surveys, etc.
- Community culture, e.g., community values and practices, artistic activities, etc.
- Spiritual and religious information, e.g., beliefs, customs, rites, etc.
- Environmental issues, e.g., information about rare or endangered species or something that could hurt your community if it became public knowledge.
- People in your community. The FMB is not allowed to collect personal information, unless it is needed as part of our work.
