Historic Day For Manitoba - Fisher River Cree Nation receives its Financial Management System Certificate
Fisher River, Manitoba (December 01, 2017) – First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) presented its first Financial Management System (FMS) certificate in Manitoba. At a ceremony yesterday, Fisher River Cree Nation was presented with the FMS certification. It marks an historic moment that leads the way for other First Nations to follow.
Fisher River has worked diligently to be a self-sustaining and progressive community with a strong and accountable government. Now all of their hard work has paid off.
Chief David Crate says, “our community is incredibly pleased and honoured to be the first Manitoba First Nation to obtain a Financial Management Systems certification through the FMB. This certification is validation of our strong and effective finance and governance practices”. Chief Crate added, “This will serve and benefit our community for generations to come.”
First Nations Financial Management Board has worked closely with Fisher River. FMB Executive Chair Harold Calla says there are numerous benefits of having an FMS certification, which include increased transparency and accountability to community members. Calla says “this milestone will allow Fisher River to expand their economic development opportunities through increased capacity and access to capital, and it’s with great pleasure to see that they have achieved and certainly earned the FMS certification".
